Growing to lengths of up to 100 feet and weighing up to 200 tons, these marine mammals are the largest animals ever known to have lived on Earth. Their tongues alone can weigh as much as an elephant and their hearts as much as a car. The baby whales weigh around 5 to 7.5 tonnes (2,7000 kg) and up to 8m long. Blue Whales are so loud that their calls can be heard by one another from 1,000 miles away; the spray from their blowhole can reach 30 feet into the air. Blue whales feast on krill or copepads; their stomachs can hold 2,200 pounds of the tiny crustaceans at a time. They prey almost 9,000 pounds of the little guys a day; and around 40 million krill daily during the summer feeding season.
2 Colossal SquidColossal Squid is at the second spot on this list. Rarely seen, these massive squid can measure squid can measure up to 14 metres (about 46 feet) in total length with mantle lengths of up to 4 metres (about 13 feet) and weighing up to 495 kilograms (about 1091 pounds). They have the largest eyes in the animal kingdom, reaching 10” (25cm) in diameter. Colossal Squid feed on small and large fishes (including the Patagonian Toothfish). Due to their enormous size, the Colossal Squid consumes a big volume of large fish out there.
