Charminar stands out as one of the prominent landmarks of Hyderabad. Fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah built this historical monument. Situated on the east bank of Musi river, Charminar has four imposing arches, which face the four main directions, and it is from these minarets that it got its name as the Charminar. The four minarets rise to a height of 48.7 m above the ground and can be seen even miles away from the monument. The construction of Charminar was started in the year 1591 and got completed by 1612.
